Edmonton Padres Baseball Club “Provincial A” tryouts will be held at the end of May 2017.
Dates, Locations and Times TBA
The Edmonton Padres will be hosting teams in 3 divisions…
Mosquito “A” Division
Peewee “A” Division
Bantam “A” Division
The single-A (Provincial A) program is one level below the AA program and therefore the skill level, competition and time commitments are at a similarly slightly lower level. It is intended for skilled players who have a desire to play at a more competitive level after the house league season ends. The A program also prepares players interested in pursuing AA baseball the following season. Similar to the AA programs, the teams typically consist of 12-15 players, which are selected by Try-outs/Evaluations and therefore the team can be considered a “selects” team, composed of the more skilled players that participated in the house league programs in May-June. The try-outs commence at the end of May and teams will typically hold 3-4 practices in June (once the team is selected). The teams play during the first 3 weeks of July and participate in the Provincial “A” Championships in later July 2017 . Like all Edmonton Padres rep teams, the Padres A team is supported by a coaching staff of experienced and NCCP certified coaches, who can provide a higher level of instruction and direction in competitive baseball.
The team is created to represent the Edmonton Padres Baseball Club (NEZ) in a Provincial A tournament that takes place in later July (location TBA); qualification games are played during the weekends leading up to the final provincial tournament. During the month of July, the time commitments are generally as follows:
There is no fee for evaluations/tryouts.
Padres “A” players fees for 2017 will be $150.00 per player.
The Edmonton Padres Baseball Club will be hosting tryouts for all AA divisions (Mosquito, Peewee, Bantam and Midget) in March 2017. Please see below for all dates. You can also visit the AA Baseball page for upcoming information.
There will be a $25.00 per player charge for all tryouts. Players who where registered for the winter workout camp with the Padres will have this fee waived. The $25.00 fee will be collected on the first day of the tryouts (Cash or Cheque please)(Cheques payable to NEZ Baseball). This fee is non-refundable.
All players will be evaluated by external third party evaluators and coaching staff of the Edmonton Padres AA baseball clubs.
NEZ Baseball will not be releasing any players to any AA baseball organizations for 2017 (unless cut from a particular Padres roster), as NEZ (Padres) will be hosting AA baseball in all divisions. Baseball Alberta player transfer rules will be in effect and maintained by the Edmonton Padres baseball Club and NEZ Sports Council. If you require further clarification or have any questions, please contact Dave Ball (Baseball Director) at balldr@shaw.ca or at 780-982-9165
NOTE: ALL PLAYERS wanting to play “AAA” baseball with another outside association, must first register with NEZ baseball. From there, NEZ will adhere to Baseball Alberta transfer rules. For any required information, please contact Dave Ball at balldr@shaw.ca or at 780-982-9165.

The Edmonton Padres Baseball Club welcomes John Sutherland as new Technical director for 2017…
Edmonton, Alberta – December 15, 2016
John Sutherland has had experience in program development and coaching of players of all levels of minor baseball to elite amateur and collegiate programs. John’s coaching began in his hometown of Cranbrook, BC in the summers between college baseball seasons. During five seasons of involvement with the Cranbrook Bandits American Legion (and affiliate Creston Outlawz), John assisted over a dozen players to reach collegiate baseball.
An opportunity to coach as a graduate assistant at Lewis-Clark State College after John’s collegiate playing days ended, provided him with a glimpse into the successes behind one of the most successful college baseball programs and coaches ever. John gained experience and understanding in planning and running dynamic practice sessions and a philosophy based on game replication and intensity in practice to match or exceed that of game situations.
John looks forward to bringing his ten plus years of elite coaching experience, program development and organizational structure to the Edmonton Padres, to assist in the development of its players and coaches, as well as in the overall growth of baseball in our region. John will be leading the Winter Workout Camp and continue duties in mentoring Padres coaches throughout the season by way of planning, feedback and hands-on (practice) involvement.
Good Luck in your new role John!
Edmonton Padres Baseball is pleased to have you working with our players, coaches and programs!

PLAYER TRANSFER RULE CHANGES FOR 2017
Posted on December 07, 2016
The topic of player transfers is one that has been part of the agenda of the Baseball Alberta Board of Directors every season. Following the Open Session on Player Transfers held in October 2016, the Board of Directors has determined the following changes to the player transfer rules effective for the 2017 season, subject to final approval at the January 2017 Board of Directors Meeting.
•Player residency will be defined as the residence of the player’s parents or legal guardians. Acceptable proof of a players residence will be a certified true photocopy of government issued identification (such as a driver’s license or passport) of the player’s parent(s) or legal guardian. Players who are subject to the joint custody of parents who are not cohabitating may use the address of either parent for the purposes of player registration.
Players will not be required to submit proof of residency at the time of registration with Baseball Alberta. However, players continue to be required to register with the member Association geographically closest to their residence (Home Association). Member Associations need to ensure that registering players residences are closest geographically to their Association. For extra clarity, billet addresses will no longer be accepted as residency for Baseball Alberta registration.
•‘AAA’ and ‘AA’ coaches will be required to review their team roster submission and certify that all player addresses are accurate and comply with Baseball Alberta residency requirements.
•Coaches who are found in violation of player residency or transfer rules will be suspended for the balance of the current season. Players who are found to be in violation of the residency rules will be ineligible for all league, Provincial, and post-Provincial play for the balance of the current season.
•Violations of the residency or player transfer rules may result in further sanctions at the discretion of the Executive of the Board of Directors of Baseball Alberta for the Association involved. These could include ineligibility of Association teams for Provincial and/or post-Provincial play, loss of funding for teams to attend post-Provincial Championships, and/or probation for one or more future seasons of Baseball Alberta League play.
•Players wishing to play for an Association other than their Home Association will continue to need to complete a player transfer request as outlined in the current player transfer rules in the Baseball Alberta Handbook. Any player playing in Baseball Alberta’s leagues may be required to submit proof of residency directly to Baseball Alberta upon request of the Registrar. The Registrar may make this request of players selected at random from League rosters or in situations where questions have been raised regarding the residence of a player.
It should be noted that the Board recognizes that these changes may not address all issues related to player transfers. However, the Board is confident that these changes respond to the feedback collected at the Open Session and serve to improve the administration of this aspect of Baseball Alberta League play going forward.
Please feel free to contact the Baseball Alberta office at registrar@baseballalberta.com if you have any questions regarding Baseball Alberta residency or player transfer rules.
